Alan Muraoka to Serve as Master of Ceremonies at Docs for Tots 20th Anniversary Celebration

Docs for Tots is pleased that Sesame Street’s Alan Muraoka (of Hooper’s store) – will join us as Master of Ceremonies at our 20th Anniversary Celebration

Alan Muraoka is an Emmy Award winning actor/director/and producer. For 25 years he has portrayed Alan, the proprietor of Hooper’s Store on the iconic children’s series Sesame Street.  As a Director for the series, he received a 2021 Emmy Award for co-directing Sesame Street: The Power of We which also won a 2021 NAACP Image Award nomination for direction. Mr. Muraoka was also nominated for 3 Emmy Awards for Sesame Street-See Us Coming Together, an AANHPI special which introduced the first Korean American Muppet named Ji-Young. He co-directed Sesame Street: Family Day, which introduced the first same-sex family to the show, and it also won the 2021 GLAAD Media Award for Best Children’s Program. He has also directed theatre both in New York and around the country.

As an actor Mr. Muraoka appeared in 7 Broadway shows; Disney’s Aladdin, the Roundabout Theatre revival of Pacific Overtures, The King and I, My Favorite Year, Shogun, the Musical, Mail, and most notably Miss Saigon, where he played the lead role of the Engineer. Other film and television credits include It Could Happen To You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, City on The Hill, 30 Rock, Brotherhood, and The Tonight Show.

A graduate of UCLA, Mr. Muraoka received their Carol Burnett Musical Comedy Award for performance. He was also the 2004 recipient of the APEX Inspiration Award and the FCC’s 2007 Role Model of the Year Award.
