Why should I fill out the census?
The Census is extremely important! It determines how much funding different programs get over the next 10 years for things like:

- Schools
- Childcare Programs
- Public Health Insurance (like Medicaid)
- Public benefit programs
- Public transportation
- Roads
- And much more!
In addition to funding programs like this, it also determines how much representation New York State will have in congress – which can impact which laws get passed over the next 10 years. More people counted means more representation.
So the census could help my children?
Absolutely! The census determines funding for many programs specifically
for children, including funding for children’s health insurance, Headstart, and childcare, as well as many other programs. For more information click here.
Who gets counted?
Everyone, of all ages, who was living in your house on or before April 1st, 2020. Especially young children. Children tend to be undercounted (left off of family’s census forms) so they could miss out on certain programs that rely on funding based on the census.
